Roe V Wade, 1973
Gouache and ink on paper
The illustration is based on the Women’s Rights Project collection from the ACLU, which documents the cases that have formed women’s collective national rights to date. Roe v Wade was a case that gave women a national right to bodily autonomy so that they could choose how to successfully and safely carry new life. It was overturned in 2022, and there are now many places in the US where women are no longer allowed to make choices about their health.
